Ecuador’s Justice ruled against two administrators of server IKS 61a in a case of satellite pay TV signal piracy. They were penalized with one year of effective prison and a fine.
The Alianza Contra la Piratería de Televisión Paga reported that the investigation process took four years and involved the participation and joint work of the control and judicial entities.
“Through this ruling, the Quito Criminal Court sends a strong signal to pay TV pirates, who need to know that the theft of signals can take them to prison as in this case,” said Pascal Métral, VP, Legal Affairs at Nagra and Co-executive Director, Alianza contra Piratería de Televisión Paga. The executive added that the entity “will continue to focus its efforts on the large pirate organizations at local and regional levels. This Ecuadorian success will also help us to dismantle the IKS 61 network in other Latin American countries.”
