A man was sentenced to five year in prison for customs offense, after entering the country more than 2,000 satellite TV set-top boxes, according to the Peruvian Ministry of Production (Produce). The objective was to market the equipment without paying the rights to the content owners, reported local newspaper El Comercio. The ruling was obtained thanks to the Working Table against Pay TV or Cable TV Piracy, which is chaired by the Ministry of Production through the Commission to Fight against Customs Crimes and Piracy (CLCDAP). The deputy minister of Mype and Industry and president of the CLCDAP, Javier Dávila Quevedo, said that this is the first case of illegal import of parts of satellite decoder reported and detected by a customs authority in South America. According to the official, the process began in 2016 when the National Customs Superintendency of Peru (Sunat) filed the respective complaint.
